What a way to kick off the season! Not only was this Team 2’s first game of the season, it was also their first ever competitive fixture since the team was formed, and they certainly made their mark!
Football For Life started brightly and took the lead through Tom Stanners, whose cross-come-shot had so much whip on it that the Rochdale keeper simply couldn’t deal with it. 1–0!
The second was even more outrageous. A corner from Rich Brazier somehow sailed straight into the net, leaving everyone wondering whether it was intentional or an absolute worldie! We’ll take it either way. 2–0!
Then came the goal of the game. Josh Day produced a sumptuous chipped through ball, perfectly weighted to release Mark Prankerd in behind. Mark kept his composure, ran through on goal and calmly slotted it home like he’d been doing it for years. 3–0!
But Rochdale weren’t finished.
Late on, Jerry Osholaja was unfortunate to concede a penalty after a late challenge, giving the Raiders a chance to get themselves back into the game.
Step forward debutant goalkeeper JJ Hall. On his birthday.
Rochdale stepped up… JJ saved it onto the crossbar! The rebound came back… OFF THE BAR AGAIN! A third attempt was then sent over!
Absolute scenes!
A birthday, a debut, a penalty save and a clean sheet — JJ certainly won’t forget this one!
The penalty heroics earned JJ Hall the Man of the Match award!
What a start for Team 2. What a performance. What a way to announce yourselves.
Well done, lads! Up the FFL!
