The game began in a cagey fashion, with both sides showing respect for one another and struggling to create clear-cut chances in the early stages. Warrington eventually broke the deadlock midway through the first half, capitalising on a momentary lapse to take a 1–0 lead.
FFL responded well and grew into the game as the half progressed. Their persistence paid off with a well-worked equaliser, as slick interplay between Nyle Ceplis and Nathan Tam carved open the Warrington defence. Ceplis calmly finished the move to bring the sides level at 1–1 heading into the break.
The second half burst into life with both teams playing at a much higher intensity. Warrington regained the lead early on, only for FFL to hit back through Alfie Duckett, who was on hand to convert a simple tap-in after good attacking work. The momentum swung again as Warrington found the net for a third time, but FFL refused to back down.
Kwok Leung then produced the moment of the match for FFL, firing home a superb effort to make it 3–3 and set up a tense finale. With the game finely poised, both teams pushed for a winner, creating chances at either end in an open and exciting closing spell.
Just as it looked like the points would be shared, Warrington delivered the decisive blow in the final minute, striking a well-hit long-range effort that found the back of the net and sealed a 4–3 victory.
Despite the result, it was an excellent performance from Football for Life, who can feel unfortunate not to have taken something from the game. There were plenty of positives to take, and the squad will look to carry this momentum into next Sunday’s fixture against Rochdale Rangers.
